The old port of Ghent lies to the east of the old town in a neighbourhood that doesn’t get too many tourists. It used to be quite run-down, but the city has transformed it into a lively waterfront district with restored quays and moorings for small boats.
If you’re lucky, you’ll find the tiny blue summer bar called Kiosko is open at the end of Hagelandkaai. It’s a relaxed spot to sit on a stripey yellow deckchair with a beer as the sun goes down.
