Flemish political parties N-VA, CD&V, and Vooruit began discussing the environmental dossier in the negotiations to form a Flemish Government on Wednesday morning – but the nitrogen issue continues to divide parties.

With internal affairs scheduled to be discussed on Thursday, a final agreement is expected by Thursday night.

However, the environmental segment is particularly sensitive, as it includes the agricultural nitrogen issue which troubled the Jambon government (previous Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon) in the previous term.

"Without a solution to this problem, there will be no Flemish Government with us," warned Bart Dochy (CD&V), an agricultural specialist for the Christian Democrats in the Flemish Parliament.

Although the current decree addressing this issue is valid until 2030, the CD&V is demanding several measures, including the public purchase of farmland.

If an agreement is reached by Thursday night, the three parties will hold participation congresses over the weekend.
