A new exhibition titled Alechinsky, Travelling Brush will run from 26 September 2024 to 16 March 2025 at Villa Empain in Brussels, showcasing the imaginative works of Brussels painter Pierre Alechinsky.
The Boghossian Foundation announced on Wednesday that it would be dedicating an exhibition to a single artist for the first time since opening to the public in 2010.
Alechinsky, Travelling Brush delves into the painter’s fascination with Japanese and Chinese art practices and traditions, inspired by his trips to these countries.
The exhibition features around a hundred works and numerous archival documents collected over the past seventy years, including his time with the Cobra group (Copenhagen-Brussels-Amsterdam).
Highlighting Pierre Alechinsky’s experimental freedom, the exhibition will display his varied use of techniques and media since 1947, such as canvases, inks, etchings, lithographs, enamelled lava, porcelain books, and even a painted harpsichord from 1986 in the grand hall.
Visitors will also discover collaborative works created by Alechinsky alongside artists such as Jiří Kolář and Hans Spinner, as well as pieces accompanying the writings of authors like Salah Stétié, Amos Kenan, and Joyce Mansour.
