A person injured by gunfire near the Aumale metro station in Anderlecht on Wednesday evening is now out of danger, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday.
Brussels-Midi police responded to shooting on Rue de la Vérité in Anderlecht around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and found a person with gunshot wounds to the legs. Emergency medical services and an ambulance were called, and the victim was taken to hospital in critical condition, but is now stable.
A vehicle was also set on fire nearby, but Brussels firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.
“A judicial security perimeter was established, and the prosecutor’s office was informed," the Brussels public prosecutor said on Thursday. "A ballistic expert, a forensic doctor, and the federal police laboratory were called to intervene.”
The prosecutor further stated that the suspects were at large and were being actively sought.
Initial evidence suggests a probable link to drug trafficking, but the investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
