Seven minors have been apprehended for violently attacking two fellow students at a school in Herzele, the Office of the Public Prosecutor (OPP) of East Flanders confirmed on Friday.
Initial reports indicate the attackers used a screwdriver to injure their victims.
According to OPP Spokesperson Lisa De Wilde, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at the Herzele Athenaeum.
One of the two victims suffered minor injuries while the other was seriously injured and transported to hospital.
The juvenile prosecutor’s office is reviewing the case and will first examine statements to decide if the minors will be brought before a juvenile judge.
The exact circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation.
The school administration has preemptively suspended several students.
