Brussels Mobility has warned motorists to expect traffic disruption on the Brussels Ring Road, the region's key traffic axis, due to road surface repair works starting Monday morning (7 October). Traffic will be redirected and the speed limit reduced.
In Anderlecht, the Brussels Ring Road (R0) forms a bridge over Boulevard Sylvain Dupuis. The region's mobility agency noted last week that the bridge deck over this road is cracking and needs urgent repair. Initially, it halved the speed limit over the bridge from 100 km/h to 50 km/h. On Monday, it started working on the road surface to fix the damage.
"During the first phase of the works, the Inner Ring Road towards Zaventem will be closed, and traffic will be redirected to two narrowed lanes on the Outer Ring Road. The speed will remain limited to 50 km/h in both directions," Brussels Mobility's spokesperson Inge Paemen said in a statement.
The mobility service warned of disruption, especially during rush hours, with delays of up to 45 minutes. Works on the first phase are expected to last until 20 December.
During the works, the Ring Road will also not be accessible via Chaussée de Ninove (N8). "The Outer Ring Road will be accessible along the ramp via the Avenue d'Itterbeek once motorists have passed the works."

Meanwhile, the Vilvoorde viaduct will not be accessible to heavy traffic during the weekend and the renovation of the Leonard tunnel is also still ongoing during the same period. "Motorists are advised to avoid the Brussels Ring Road and opt for alternative means of transport."
The second phase of the works, focusing on the repair of the Outer Ring Road towards Mons, is planned to start around the summer of 2025.
