A 57-year-old Belgian man has been arrested in Valencia, Spain, for the attempted murder of his 52-year-old Argentine roommate, according to several Spanish media outlets.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening, reported Spanish media El Debate. The two men, sharing a room in a homeless shelter, got into an argument. The Belgian man stabbed the Argentine roommate in the neck three times.
Neighbours found the bloodied victim on the street and called emergency services. Witnesses later informed the police that the alleged attacker was the victim’s roommate.
The suspect was found sitting on a bench smoking a cigarette and was subsequently arrested. He confessed to waiting for his roommate to die and handed over the weapon to the authorities.
The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, but the regional newspaper Levante-EMV suggested the assailant might suffer from a mental disorder.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
