The Office of the Public Prosecutor called on Monday in the Verviers Criminal Court for a five-year prison sentence to be imposed on a man in his sixties accused of raping his wife at gunpoint.
On the night of 17-18 September 2021, the accused pointed a rifle at his wife, who was asleep in an armchair, and ordered her to undress, the public prosecutor charged. He tried to penetrate her but was unable to, as the victim was tetanised. He then forced himself upon her. The charge of rape was therefore established, the prosecution pointed out.
The accused admitted ‘messing around" and that he did things he should not have done. "I was still in love with her and we hadn't had a sexual relationship for a year and a half," he explained.
After the incident, the victim sought refuge at her daughter's house, but the accused then posted a photo of her home on social networks.
"It was a way of intimidating the victim and letting her know that he knew where she was, a way of making her live in fear and dread," said the public prosecutor.
The accused is also suspected of damaging and tagging the victim's home, which he denies.
Judgement is expected on 8 November.
