An electric scooter user collided with a STIB bus on Saturday night at a busy junction in Schaerbeek.
Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police confirmed that the incident had occurred to Belga News Agency.
"Our services were called at around 21:40 on Saturday for an accident involving an electric scooter and a STIB bus at the intersection of Avenue Simon Bolivar and Quai de Willebroeck," said spokesperson Linda Camarero-Verde.
Emergency services quickly arrived to the scene, where rescue services were already present. The scooter rider sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital.
His condition is now stable and no longer life-threatening. The bus driver, in a state of shock, was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
An alcohol test for the bus driver returned negative, whereas the scooter rider tested positive for alcohol. The Public Prosecutor's Office has been informed and a detailed investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is underway.
