Bus services in the Westerlo and Tremelo regions have been disrupted on Monday morning due to a spontaneous strike at two depots of the Flemish public transport company De Lijn.
There have been several strikes affecting De Lijn in recent weeks, including multiple depots in the province of Antwerp, the Belgian coast, Brussels suburbs, and in Leuven and Tielt-Winge.
Today's spontaneous action comes as workers are voicing their dissatisfaction with the cancellation of certain routes. They are also protesting against new work schedules.
The company plans to implement schedule changes from January. This would change the system from fixed schedules to shift work. These changes are being negotiated on a regional basis.
In a statement De Lijn said it "regrets this spontaneous action" and apologised for "the inconvenience caused to its passengers". The public transport operator recommends passengers plan their trip, by checking the De Lijn route planner online or through the app.
