Infrabel is to lodge a complaint against the Code Rouge environmental organisation for damage caused to its infrastructure in Feluy, Hainaut, over the weekend, the rail network operator told Belga News Agency on Monday.

Code Rouge activists blocked the Total Energies oil site in Feluy for almost 30 hours on Saturday and Sunday. They set up camp on the main railway lines used by goods trains to transport fossil fuels to and from the site, and on a strategic roundabout. Some 700 people took part in the action, according to the organisation.

"Infrabel has observed deliberate damage to the railway infrastructure at Feluy,"the utility's press officer, Pauline Bertrand, said. "We are going to lodge a complaint."

According to Infrabel, paint was applied to its infrastructure, and rail fastenings were dismantled.

"We regret that it is rail that is suffering the consequences of these actions, even though it is the cleanest way of transporting goods," Ms. Bertrand lamented.

Code Rouge also occupied the entrance to the Total Energies site in the Port of Antwerp on Saturday and organised a demonstration on Monday during which activists simulated their death in front of the company's Belgian headquarters in Brussels.

Code Rouge describes itself as "a civil disobedience movement targeting the fossil fuel industry, created by activists and supported by various organisations and action groups."
