The Pentagon announced on Wednesday that 35 Islamic State (ISIS) members were killed in U.S. attacks in Syria on Monday.
The attacks, which targeted multiple ISIS positions in the Syrian desert, killed many high-ranking leaders of the terror group, according to the U.S. Central Command for the Middle East, Centcom.
Centcom reported no evidence of civilian casualties in the strikes.
It said the airstrikes would disrupt ISIS’s ability to plan, organise, and execute attacks against U.S. allies and partners throughout the region and beyond.
Washington has deployed about 900 troops in Syria as part of an international coalition against ISIS, and regularly conducts operations in the war-torn country.
In 2014, ISIS seized parts of Syria and Iraq, declared a “caliphate,” and began a reign of terror that was defeated by the international coalition in 2019.
