The report was confirmed the local police zone, who received a report around 01:30 about an explosion in a three-storey building. As a result of the explosion, a fire broke out in the basement.
Residents of the five apartments were evacuated using ladders and were taken to a communal building. No injuries were reported. By 02:00, firefighters had the situation under control.
There was significant smoke and water damage in the basement, but no apartments were deemed uninhabitable. "Residents will be allowed to return home after clearance from the firefighters and police," said Commissioner Gerry Paulus.
