More than €20,000 has been raised through a crowdfunding campaign for the homeless man who was seriously assaulted earlier this week in Rotterdam.

The man, named Benjamin, suffered severe injuries after an individual dropped a large concrete slab onto his head while he was sleeping at the Maritime Museum in Lievehaven, Rotterdam, on Early on Tuesday, 5 November 2024.

Benjamin is currently in a coma in hospital. After the assault, which the police classify as attempted murder, the perpetrator took an international train towards the Belgian cities of Antwerp and Brussels.

"Now that Benjamin is in critical condition, we – his friends and family – want to do everything to ensure he gets the best care and never has to sleep on the streets again once he wakes up," stated the action page.

"Any leftover donations will be given to a homeless charity to support others in vulnerable situations."

Belgian police have been enlisted to search for him. Previously, the Dutch police released images of the alleged perpetrator.
