Ambassador Peter Moors became Belgium's new Permanent Representative to the European Union on Monday. He succeeds Ambassador Willem van de Voorde.

"I am honoured to begin my mandate as the new Permanent Representative," Moors. "We have all witnessed the dedication and dynamism of this team during the Belgian Presidency of the Council, and I look forward to continuing this work together, fully defending Belgian interests in the next EU legislature."

Moors has held a number of diplomatic posts during his career. He was head of cabinet to Prime Minister Alexander De Croo from 2020 to 2024, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Foreign Affairs Department (2019-2020), Director-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (2007-2014) and Belgian Ambassador to Greece (2004-2007).

He also worked at Belgium's Permanent Representation to the EU 25 years ago, as a young diplomat.

According to Ambassador Moors, Belgium's priorities for the EU are clear and "include improving European competitiveness, protecting and strengthening the single market and preparing the next budget to match our shared ambitions."

The geopolitical crises in Ukraine and the Middle East will also be among his priorities as head of the Permanent Representation.
