Liège announces new crackdown on drug trafficking

A new action plan against drug trafficking has been in place in Liège since Tuesday, the city's public prosecutor's office announced on Thursday, in collaboration with the local police zone.

The action plan is aimed, on one hand, to coordinate large-scale operations within the city-centre perimeter aimed at arresting potential drug dealers and consumers.

On the other hand, it aims to maintain the continued vigilance of the public prosecutor's office and the Liège police with regard to drug trafficking, according to a press release from the public prosecutor's office.

The first operation took place on Wednesday, 13 November: four people suspected of drug dealing were arrested, detained and referred to the public prosecutor. Six drug users were also arrested.

The action plan covers the entire city of Liège, but is focussing on the city centre for an indefinite period.

Several operations similar to the one on 13 November are planned over the coming days and weeks.
