Authorities shut down an illegal rave party at the former Heylen and Meevita furniture stores in Peer around midnight on Saturday, Mayor Steven Matheï confirmed on Sunday morning.
The rave had been ongoing since Friday night, with between 1,000 and 1,2000 people in attendance. Once notified, the local Campine police closed access routes to the buildings.
Police made a total of eight administrative arrests on Saturday, and two attendees were hospitalised.
"We are pleased to have brought it to a safe conclusion,” said Mayor Steven Matheï, adding that those arrested likely included "several event organisers".
"Attendees left the premises, and equipment was cleared away,” continued the mayor.
"Police checked the attendees and confiscated equipment and vehicles. The site will also be inspected for possible traces of drugs and material evidence," he said.
A few individuals were still on-site on Sunday morning, but they are expected to leave in the coming hours.
