Belgium's outgoing Federal Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen) sustained light injuries after she was hit by a car in Brussels on Monday.

Van der Straeten, who has been serving as Federal Minister of Energy in the outgoing Vivaldi Government since October 2020, was hit by a car as she was walking from her home in the Brussels municipality of Koekelberg to her office near Botanique on Monday.

She was reportedly walking on a zebra crossing when she was struck by a car. The driver who hit her then fled the scene, according to sources close to the outgoing minister.

Initial medical assessments indicate minor injuries, but additional tests and further medical evaluations are necessary.

Because of the accident and the injuries sustained, Van der Straeten will postpone her scheduled engagements for this week.
