Storm Darragh has caused significant transport disruptions in the UK on Saturday, leading to numerous train and flight cancellations and power outages that have affected tens of thousands of homes.

A man died in north-west England on Saturday morning when a tree fell on his van. The rare Met Office red warning for strong winds was in place from 01:00 to 11:00, covering south-west England and parts of Wales.

Darragh continues to bring heavy rain and strong winds across the UK. England and Wales remain under a yellow warning until 18:00 on Sunday. It is the fourth storm of the season for the region.

About three million people received alerts on their phones on Friday night, advising them to stay indoors. Gusts reached 150 km/h in northern Wales, the Met Office reported.

At 09:00, power was out in 86,000 homes across England, Scotland, and Wales, according to the Energy Networks Association. Around 45,000 homes in Northern Ireland were also without electricity, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

National Rail warned of continued disruptions to train services until Sunday across England, Scotland, and Wales. Christmas celebrations and sports events have been postponed.

British Airways cancelled several flights to and from Heathrow, with some planes diverted to Dublin. In Ireland, Darragh caused power outages for 400,000 homes, according to RTE News.
