Belgium will face World Champions Spain, Italy, and Portugal in Group B of the Women’s Euro 2025, to be held in Switzerland next summer.
The draw for the final phase took place on Monday in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The sixteen qualified teams were divided into four groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
The Red Flames were in Pot 3 during the draw, with the pots determined based on Euro qualifying results, except for Switzerland, which qualified automatically as hosts and were placed in Group A.
Belgium will encounter top-seeded Spain, who they faced in the qualifiers. Spain had previously won 7-0 in Leuven and 2-0 in La Coruña. Spain also won the inaugural Women’s Nations League in February and are among the favourites for this Euro.
Drawn from Pot 2, Italy brings back good memories for Ives Serneels’ players. They defeated Italy 1-0 in their final group match at Euro 2022, advancing to the quarter-finals. More recently, Belgium beat Italy 2-1 at the Arnold Clark Cup in England in February 2023.
Conversely, Portugal, drawn from Pot 4, holds a less pleasant memory. On 6 October 2022, Portugal won 2-1 in the first round of playoffs for the 2023 World Cup, ending Belgium’s qualification hopes.
Belgium will face Spain and Portugal twice in the Nations League before the Euro. This will be Belgium’s third consecutive appearance in the Euro finals, following eliminations in the group stage in the Netherlands in 2017 and the quarter-finals in England in 2022.
The Euro will take place from 2 to 27 July 2025. St. Jakob-Park in Basel will host both the opening match and the final. This will be the 14th edition of the Women’s Euro.
