The public transport company De Lijn faced technical issues with real-time passenger information for its buses and trams, possibly due to a cyberattack, a spokesperson confirmed.

Passengers were unable to access information on the website, app, or bus stop displays. The website’s search function was also temporarily disabled, according to the Flemish transport company. The website is currently down.

"It started very early, causing inconvenience for both drivers and passengers, but by 08:30 the situation was under control," said spokesperson Frederik Wittock. He suggested there is strong evidence that the technical problems resulted from a cyberattack.

De Lijn was listed among targeted institutions and companies circulating on Telegram. Through a so-called DDoS attack, hackers can temporarily disrupt websites by overwhelming them with requests.

The website of telecom company Proximus was also on the list. "We have noticed increased traffic to our website. We are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to intervene if necessary," said spokesperson Fabrice Gansbeke. End users are not experiencing any issues.
