France: Man fatally attacked near Reims, five people in custody

Five people have been taken into police custody following a fatal attack on a man on Friday near the French city of Reims (Marne), AFP learned on Saturday from the Reims Public Prosecutor's Office.

The attack took place on Friday evening on a public road in Tinqueux, near Reims in Eastern France. The fire brigade intervened at around 21:10.

The 40-year-old victim had a bleeding head wound and was lying on the ground in "cardiorespiratory arrest," a police source said. He was subsequently taken to Reims hospital, where he died at around 23:00.

According to the initial investigation, the man was attacked by several individuals following an argument, the source added.

The Reims Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation for murder and aggravated assault.
