The RTBF's solidarity action 'Viva for Life' raised a record €8,813,551 this year, the French-speaking public broadcaster announced on Monday evening.
The previous record for the annual fundraising campaign, set last year, was €8,466,888.
The twelfth edition of the event began last Tuesday in Seraing, where three presenters, Fanny Jandrain, Walid, and Ophélie Fontana, were locked in a glass house for 144 hours to raise funds for combatting child poverty.
For 6 days and 6 nights, the three presenters were able to gather a multitude of increasingly moving testimonies on RTBF radio, at the cube donation box and during the daily TV show, the RTBF reported.
At the same time, Sara De Paduwa visited several Christmas markets in Brussels and Wallonia as part of the Belfius Viva for Life Tour. At each stop, actions in favour of the operation were a huge success. Partner Belfius raised €816,170.
Viva for Life is the French-language equivalent of 'Music for Life,' now known as 'The Warmest Week.'
In the early editions of Studio Brussel’s solidarity action, presenters also spent a week in a glass house. The concept has since evolved and now includes the MNM radio station.
This year's 'The Warmest Week,' which runs until Tuesday evening in Bruges, focuses on raising funds for projects addressing loneliness.
