The ban on take-offs for American Airlines flights in the United States has been lifted after all the airlines' flights were temporarily cancelled on Tuesday morning, ahead of Christmas Eve – one of the busiest days of the year – due to a technical problem.
All flights by American Airlines flights in the United States were cancelled on Tuesday due to a technical problem, announced US aviation regulator FAA ahead of Christmas Eve.
"We are currently experiencing a technical problem with all American Airlines flights," the airline reported on X, without giving more details. "Your safety is our top priority. Once this is resolved, we will get you safely on your way to your destination."
Reports online suggested that the airline was experiencing a software failure. American Airlines shares were already down 5.5% on pre-dawn trading.
