The Flemish Government has allocated €200,000 to Red Cross Flanders International for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele (N-VA) announced the donation in a statement on Sunday morning. The funding is aimed at awareness and training sessions on the risks associated with unexploded ordnance, such as mines and other war materials.
"This financial boost can help them share their on-ground expertise with residents in war zones, ensuring unexploded munitions cause no additional casualties in this armed conflict," said Diependaele.
In areas where recent fighting has occurred, unexploded explosives continue to pose a threat to local populations and aid workers.
Through awareness and 'Mine Risk Education' and 'Weapon Contamination' training, individuals are taught how to handle these dangers safely.
Red Cross Flanders is collaborating with the German Red Cross (GRC) to support the Ukrainian Red Cross (URCS) in these efforts.
