An Argentinian judge has ordered the arrest of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, his wife Rosario Murillo, and a dozen aides, for "systematic violation of human rights" in Nicaragua, the lawyer who filed the complaint said on Monday.

"Federal Judge Ariel Lijo has ordered the summons and international arrest warrant for Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo," attorney Dario Richarte told French news agency AFP.

The case is based on the principle of universal jurisdiction, which allows countries to prosecute crimes against humanity wherever they are committed, he explained.
