Brussels' iconic music venue Ancienne Belgique is hosting the annual civil servants' ball from 13:00 to 22:00 on Thursday.
Civil servants and some private sector employees gather every year on the first working day of the year to unwind in a festive atmosphere.
Patrick Vanhopplinus, the organiser and spokesperson for the event, expects 1,600 attendees. "Last year, we were fully booked, and I hope we will have the same number of visitors this year. It seems the event will be successful," he said.
The event, which started 54 years ago, is open to all civil servants, private sector employees, and anyone who wants to dance their way into the new year.
"Attendees come from various administrations, including banking, municipal, Flemish, and Walloon. They are from all over," explained Vanhopplinus. "The DJ plays music of all genres, so there's something for everyone."
Attendees have previously enjoyed hits like Dizzee Rascal's 'Bonkers' and Benny Benassi's 'Satisfaction'.
