A new park will be built in the Cureghem district of the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht within the next two years.
On Monday, the Beliris federal fund for Brussels launched the vast project to transform the Albert block, which surrounds the Athénée Da Vinci. This is the triangle between the Chaussée de Mons, Rue des Goujons and Rue du Transvaal. The idea is to create a large public space that is much more user-friendly than the current site, which is made up of bits of poorly maintained land.
"The park will link the homes, sports facilities, crèche, Athénée and the Memorial to the Jewish Martyrs of Belgium," said Beliris spokesperson Sophie Saerens. "It will not only be a place for people to pass through, but also a real place to meet and relax, whether you want to go for a walk, cycle, play sport or spend time with the family."
The aim is to improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood by creating play areas for children, multi-sports pitches, an area for toddlers near the crèche, a picnic area and footpaths suitable for everyone.
The works are scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026. There will be no disruption to traffic on the Chaussée de Mons, as the work will be carried out off-road.
