Charleroi Airport (BSCA) passed the symbolic 10-million-passenger mark last year, for the first time in its history, the Walloon airport announced on Thursday.
In 2024, Brussels South Charleroi Airport posted a record of some 10.5 million passengers, representing a year-on-year increase of around 12%. In 2023, the airport had welcomed 9,396,251 passengers.
Six airlines operate flights from Charleroi: Ryanair, Wizzair, Pegasus Airlines, Air Corsica, Volotea and Air Arabia.
The country's second-largest airport in terms of passenger numbers is currently renewing its environmental permit, its current 20-year license expiring next summer. The public enquiry is due to begin in late January.
At the end of the public enquiry, the technical and delegated officials will draw up a summary report. Ultimately, it will be up to the Walloon government to decide whether to renew the licence.
