The Brussels waste management service, Bruxelles-Propreté, cleared a massive illegal dump near the exit to Sint-Pieters-Leeuw in the municipality of Anderlecht on Monday morning.

While Bruxelles-Propreté is not typically responsible for cleaning waste on regional roads, the service was called in as the mandated agency, Brussels Mobility, initially planned to hire an external company, which would have delayed the clean-up.

Starting at 08:00 on Monday, Brussels waste management service used several trucks and sweeping machines to clean the site. The dump contained significant construction waste, including some asbestos.

The operation involved three trucks with grab cranes, a sweeping machine, and two containers for the construction debris. By 10:00, authorities had removed a total of thirty square metres of waste.

The culprits may be held responsible for part of the clean-up costs. Brussels announced on Friday that they had identified about twelve individuals through camera footage. The offenders face "several thousand euros in clean-up costs and fines."

On Monday, the service identified additional culprits, including individuals from the Flemish municipality of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw and the Walloon municipality of Chaumont-Gistoux. The Brussels waste management service found incriminating evidence among the waste.
