For the first time in 18 years, a French-language Belgian film has a chance to win a Golden Bear at the 75th Berlin Film Festival. 'Reflet dans un diamant mort' is in the official competition of the Berlinale, which runs from 13 to 23 February.
'Reflet dans un diamant mort' is the fourth feature film by the duo Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani. The film tells the story of John D., a seventy-something who is confronted with his past as a spy on the French Riviera in the 1960s. The cast includes Fabio Testi, Yannick Renier, Koen De Bouw and Maria de Medeiros.
Just last year, 'Small things like these' by Flemish director Tim Mielants competed at the Berlinale. The film, starring Irish actor Cillian Murphy, opened the festival.
Another French-language Belgian co-production, the feature film 'On vous croit' by Arnaud Dufeys and Charlotte Devillers, is included in the new Perspectives section, dedicated to debut films.
Several selected films
The Wallonie Bruxelles Images, the French-language counterpart of the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (VAF), also announced that two short films have been selected: 'Autokar' by Sylwia Szkiladz in the Generation Kplus section, dedicated to children, and 'Sous ma fenêtre, la boue' by Violette Delvoye, selected in the Generation 14plus section, aimed at teenagers.
Additionally, the documentary 'Les cicatrices d'un putsch', about the 1980 military coup in Turkey by Brussels-based filmmaker Nathalie Borgers, is included in the Forum Special section.
Earlier, VAF announced that 'Têtes brûlées', filmed in Brussels and the feature debut of director and actress Maja-Ajmia Zellama, has been included in Generation 14plus. The German-Belgian-Polish co-production 'Köln 75' was also included in the Berlin Film Festival's official selection.
