Newly inaugurated US President Donald Trump has terminated security for his former top aide, John Bolton, the former National Security Advisor confirmed to CNN on Tuesday.

Bolton served as Trump’s top advisor during his first term but later became a vocal critic. In a book, he described Trump as unfit for the presidency.

The Secret Service continued to protect Bolton due to threats allegedly from Iranian sources. Trump had already revoked his security years prior, but his successor, Joe Biden, later reinstated it.

Bolton told CNN that it was “disappointing, but not surprising” that Trump had once again removed his security.

He also mentioned that despite his criticisms of Biden’s policies, Biden had chosen to reinstate his protection.
