A man was fished out of the Brussels-Charleroi Canal on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called out around 10:00 to reports of a man drowning in the Brussels canal, near the Quai du Hainaut.
Both the ambulance and fire brigade services, including a diving team, were immediately sent to the scene.
When they arrived, the drowning man had just sunk underwater. Fortunately, he was immediately brought back to the surface by the Fire Brigade's frogmen and handed over to the medical team.
The circumstances of the incident need to be further determined, but authorities believe it was the result of an accident. The man was very relieved to be rescued, a spokesperson for the Brussels Fire Brigade clarified.
During the rescue, shipping traffic was suspended.
