Eurostar, the high-speed train operator, transported a record 19.5 million passengers in 2024, the Brussels-based company announced on Thursday.

The number of travellers increased by approximately 5 percent compared to 2023, which is an addition of 850,000 passengers.

Eurostar attributes this growth to a strong demand for international train travel and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

Partially owned by the railway company SNCB, Eurostar operates high-speed trains across mainland Europe, including Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, as well as to and from London.

From April 2025, Eurostar tickets will not cover travel between the UK and any station in Belgium.

Eurostar has also been ranked the worst railway operator in Europe for its pricing, reliability and no-bike policy.

A study published by the think tank Transport and Environment (T&E) evaluated 27 companies in Europe and concluded that Eurostar offers the worst quality services on the continent.

However, Eurostar's use of the high-speed line between London and the Channel Tunnel will face lower costs from April, which could have an affect on ticket prices.
