From Friday night to Sunday evening, the A12 connection from the Netherlands towards Antwerp will be completely closed to traffic.

This closure is necessary to install a site bridge as part of the Oosterweel works, according to construction manager Lantis.

Traffic heading in the opposite direction can proceed without interruption.

The A12 will be inaccessible from Friday midnight until Sunday, 26th January at 7 pm.

The closure affects the motorway section near the harbour, from the Netherlands towards the Antwerp Ring.

No disruption is expected on the E19.

Lantis advises avoiding the A12 area.

The Liefkenshoektunnel will be toll-free towards Ghent on Saturday, 25th January from 8 am to 8 pm.

Drivers are encouraged to use the route planner ‘Slim naar Antwerpen’.

Those heading to Ghent can take the on-ramp at Merksem (exit 16 Ekeren-Noorderlaan-Groenendaallaan).

According to Lantis, the site bridge is required to connect a temporary storage area with the construction site itself.

This setup prevents construction traffic from using the motorway.

Additional closures around Antwerp are planned for March and April.

These closures will affect areas including Schijnpoortweg near the Sportpaleis and Groenendaallaan.

In May, the first enormous tunnel elements are expected to arrive in Antwerp from Zeebrugge.
