The Opera Square in Antwerp has been transformed into a colourful floral oasis with 100,000 tulips for the public to pick for free for a day.
Hundreds of individuals were in attendance at 13:00 in Antwerp for the event's opening and the start of the flower picking. Participants can gather up to 15 tulips each until 16:00, either for themselves or to gift to someone.
This sixth 'Pluktuin' ('picking garden' in English) is organised by the Flemish agricultural promotion agency (VLAM) to herald the spring flower season.
The 'Pluktuin' marks the beginning of the season with tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, crocuses, lapwing eggs and grapes available at flower shops.
These products are touted by VLAM for creating a springtime ambiance and helping to alleviate the gloom of winter.
Last year, no fewer than 7,600 people left with a bouquet of tulips.
