People aged 65 and over are increasingly opting for flexible jobs, according to an analysis by HR company Acerta, based on data from over 20,000 Belgian companies where such jobs are permitted.
Last year, the Federal Government extended the flexible job system (previously allowed mainly in the hospitality and retail sectors) to include sectors such as funeral services, logistics, tourism and horticulture.
Acerta's survey reveals that those aged 65 and over have particularly welcomed the expansion.
Compared to last year, there has been a 12% increase in the number of workers aged 55 to 64 taking up flexible jobs, and a significant 27% increase among those over 64. Currently, one in five flexible job workers is 65 and over.
The largest group of flexible job workers remains those aged 25 to 34, representing 27.9% of this workforce, which Acerta attributes to their significant proportion in the overall workforce population.
Among the new sectors where flexible jobs have been allowed for a year, funeral services stand out, with over a quarter (26.13%) of their staff in such roles. Transport and logistics follow, with 8.37% of workers in flexible jobs.
