Representatives from N-VA, MR, Les Engagés, Vooruit, and CD&V left their meeting shortly before 01:00 on Sunday night after reaching an agreement on the distribution of ministerial portfolios in the next federal government, according to CD&V President Sammy Mahdi.
None of the representatives disclosed the details of the portfolios. Mahdi expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes and mentioned that he needed to make calls to future ministers. The outgoing Ministers of Finance and the Interior, Vincent Van Peteghem and Annelies Verlinden, are frequently mentioned as potential CD&V ministers.
“I got what I came for,” said Vooruit President Conner Rousseau as he left the meeting. This raises the question of whether the Flemish socialists will retain the Health portfolio, previously held by outgoing Minister Frank Vandenbroucke. Rousseau did not provide a response.
Bart De Wever, who will be sworn in as Prime Minister on Monday, did not offer any comments.
