The Brussels Auto Show, held from 10 to 19 January, significantly increased showroom visits, according to mobility federation Traxio on Wednesday.

In January, used car registrations grew, while new car registrations declined compared to last year.

New car registrations totalled 40,594 in January, a 13% drop, attributed to an exceptionally strong January 2024, said Traxio.

Compared to 2023 and 2022, new vehicle registrations increased by 1.9% and 17%, respectively.

The used car market recorded 63,008 registrations, a 1.8% rise from January 2024.

“This dynamic confirms a continuing growth trend, supported by gradually decreasing prices and a plentiful supply of quality models,” explained Filip Rylant, Traxio’s spokesperson, in a statement.

“The median age of registered used cars has reached 8 years for the first time, indicating further aging of the vehicle fleet,” he noted.

Additionally, the Auto Show drew substantial showroom crowds, with “encouraging” feedback from distributors, according to Traxio.

However, the registrations recorded in January mainly reflect 2024 orders. The real impact of the Auto Show on new car sales will become clear in the coming months.
