The first Brussels Yarn Festival will take place at LaVallée in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on February 15 and 16, the event organiser announced in a statement on Wednesday.
Sewing, knitting, embroidery, and crochet will be showcased during the weekend through practical workshops, meetings, and exhibition stands dedicated to these various yarn arts.
The event aims to "highlight local initiatives, promote craftsmanship, and inspire the public to create with their hands rather than consuming ready-made products."
A total of 40 vendors and exhibitors are expected, including wool producers and dyers, fabric designers, sewing and knitting pattern creators, and haberdashers.
Various workshops over the two days will offer enthusiasts and curious attendees the chance to learn new techniques in sewing, knitting, weaving, crochet, embroidery, dyeing, and mending.
The programme also features conferences, meet-and-greets, book signings, and fashion shows.
The festival will also address the ecological impact of the textile world and will focus on upcycling and eco-friendly practices.
"It was essential for us to create an event that is not only inspiring but also committed," says Rebecca Deraeck, the founder of the festival. "Belgium needed a space to celebrate textile craftsmanship responsibly and to honour this passion-revolution that continues to evolve daily."
