Boulangerie Levain, located in Brussels’ Woulwe-Saint-Lambert neighbourhood, has won the third edition of the “Golden Croissant” award, which recognises Belgium’s finest croissants.
Organised on 3 February by the Bread Ambassadors of Belgium during the annual Saveurs et Métiers Professional Salon in Namur, the event challenges bakers from across the country to bake their best croissants to be judged in a live event. The breakfast treats are tested by an international jury of experts of master pâtissiers and bakers from Belgium, France and South Korea.
This year, eight bakeries were awarded the prestigious golden croissant trophy for their creations. These include Bakkerij Het Brood from Leuven, Boulangerie les Merveilles au levain from Remicourt, Bakkerij Pascal in Zedelgem, and Patisserie Zucchero in Halle.

Boulangerie Levain, represented by Yannick Conrad, Maxence Spoo and Loïc Dos Santos, is an artisan bakery specialising in organic natural leaven bread, organic natural sourdoughs, and other yeast pastries. According to Dos Santos, this is the second year the bakery has won a Golden Croissant award.
Its owner, Vincent, opened his bakery near Merode following a long career in finance. The Belgian studied breadmaking in the south of France at the International bakery school, and specialised in organic breadmaking.
The bakery recently announced that it has opened a second location in Woulwe-Saint-Pierre, in the Stokel neighbourhood.
