The Ghent police and fire brigade are concerned about the safety of a free DJ set to be organised by Charlotte de Witte at the Oude Beestenmarkt.

The techno DJ announced the surprise performance on Wednesday, immediately garnering significant interest.

Alderman for Leisure Joris Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) emphasised that, in principle, he would like the event to take place on Friday, but that safety is the top priority.

Vandenbroucke was scheduled to meet on Thursday with the mayor, police, and fire services to discuss how the performance can be organised safely.

“We are listening to the authorities and considering what is possible,” Vandenbroucke said.

The city remains in contact with de Witte’s management to further discuss the feasibility of the event.
