Sport Interactive, the developer of Football Manager, announced on Friday the cancellation of the 2025 edition of its popular video game series.
The game, which was initially due in March after two delays, does not meet the necessary quality standards, according to the studio, a part of Sega.
Football Manager is a management simulation game where players assume the role of a football team manager, responsible for club management, financial oversight, squad optimisation, and tactical planning to win major championships. The first game in the series was released in 2004.
Despite Sport Interactive’s efforts to enhance the 2025 edition, the current version fails to satisfy the studio. "While many aspects of the game meet our targets, the overall gameplay experience and interface fall short of our expectations," the developer stated on the game’s website.
Sport Interactive aimed to significantly improve the visuals and technology of the series with Football Manager 2025. However, the studio decided against another delay, believing the game’s release would be too late in the football season.
The studio will now focus on developing next year’s edition.
