Two workers at the Borssele nuclear power plant in the Netherlands were exposed to radioactive substances, according to the Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant (PZC) on Saturday.
They were wearing respiratory protection and do not suffer from internal contamination.
The incident occurred on 26 November 2024 but was only made public last week.
During maintenance work, a small amount of radioactive material was released and detected by monitoring equipment. The alarm was triggered, and the area was evacuated.
Radioactive substances came into contact with the skin of two workers. A third person present in the room was not wearing respiratory protection but left immediately when the alarm sounded and was not contaminated.
All three individuals underwent additional testing, which showed no internal contamination. The area has been cleaned, and the work is complete.
EPZ, the plant operator, is investigating the cause of the incident but emphasised that the event “had no impact on nuclear safety.”
