The Kremlin announced on Sunday that it could neither confirm nor deny a report from the American press about a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

There have been no official confirmations of communication between the two leaders since Trump took office, despite his promise to quickly end the conflict in Ukraine.

On Saturday, the New York Post reported that Trump claimed to have spoken with Putin over the phone about ending the Ukrainian conflict, with Putin expressing a desire to “see people stop dying.”

According to the newspaper, Trump also hinted that he should not disclose the frequency of their conversations.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told the Russian state-controlled news agency TASS that he could not confirm or deny the existence of any conversation, suggesting he was unaware of such a call.

“What can I say about this information? As the Washington administration develops its work, many different communications occur through various channels,” he explained.

“Due to the numerous communications, I personally might not be aware of something. Therefore, in this case, I can’t confirm or deny this information,” the spokesperson added.

Peskov has repeatedly denied reports of phone conversations between the two leaders before Trump’s return to the White House.

The Kremlin stated it is awaiting “signals” regarding a possible meeting.
