The Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis, announced his resignation on Monday.
In December last year, the Romanian presidential elections were annulled due to suspicions of external interference. Social media platform TikTok allegedly played a significant role in this.
Iohannis acknowledged criticism for remaining in office after the presidential election was annulled.
"To spare Romania and its citizens from a crisis, I will step down on Wednesday," he declared during a speech in Bucharest.
