A consortium led by US billionaire Elon Musk has submitted a $97.4 billion bid to acquire the non-profit organisation behind OpenAI, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Musk’s lawyer, Marc Toberoff, lodged the offer with OpenAI’s board on Monday.

This escalates the tensions between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who are vying for the company’s future.

Altman aims to transform OpenAI into a commercial entity, seeking to invest hundreds of billions for this transition.

The OpenAI board has yet to respond to Musk’s proposal. However, Altman expressed his thoughts on X, the platform owned by Musk.

“No, thanks,” Altman wrote.

He even added that he would like to buy Twitter (the former name of X) for $9.74 billion.

Musk acquired Twitter in 2022 for approximately $44 billion.
