European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and her team of European commissioners will visit Ukraine next week to mark the third anniversary of Russia's fullscale invasion.

Russian invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022, and the European Commission will be present in Ukraine to mark its three-year anniversary, a spokesperson announced on Monday.

"On the occasion of the third anniversary of the war of aggression against Ukraine, there will be a visit from the college of European commissioners next week," said spokesperson Stefan de Keersmaecker during a press briefing.

Europe is striving to find a unified response to the US's desire to start peace negotiations quickly to end nearly three years of war in Ukraine. They fear a deal may be made that disadvantages Kyiv without their input.

French President Emmanuel Macron has gathered UK, Polish and German leaders as well as heads of EU institutions and NATO in Paris on Monday to discuss this issue.

Representatives of the 27 EU member states in Brussels will also examine ways to increase their military aid to Ukraine this week, diplomatic sources revealed on Monday, without providing further details on the support.

A meeting of EU foreign ministers will take place on 24 February in Brussels.

Von der Leyen has already visited Ukraine eight times since the start of the Russian invasion, with her most recent visit in September 2024.
