Pope Francis’s blood tests indicate a “slight improvement” in his health, the Vatican reported on Wednesday evening.

The Pope has been hospitalised since Friday with double pneumonia.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited him on Wednesday and said he was “alert and making jokes.” Prior to her visit, the Pope spent some time working with his closest aides, according to the Vatican.

The 88-year-old pontiff has been in Rome’s Gemelli Hospital for six days after being admitted with bronchitis.

On Monday, it was revealed that he has a “complex medical condition.”

A scan on Tuesday confirmed that he has double pneumonia.

All his appointments have been cancelled through the weekend.
