The High Council of Justice has decided on the next president of the French-speaking Court of First Instance in Brussels, L’Écho reported on Thursday.

Paul Dhaeyer is set to become the next president. He is currently the chief judge of the French-speaking Commercial Court of Brussels. The decision was made on Wednesday, according to L’Écho.

Justice Minister Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) still needs to approve the appointment.

Dhaeyer will replace Anne Dessey. In September, the High Council of Justice announced that her mandate would not be renewed.

The term of the President of the Dutch-speaking Court of First Instance, Simon Cardon de Lichtbuer, has been extended.

Both magistrates were appointed in September 2019 for a five-year term, which could be renewed once. Both were candidates for a new term.
